Roulette: rules and different types of bets

The most popular classic table game in casinos is roulette. It is a great choice for both beginners and more experienced gamblers. Roulette is very popular due to its simple rules and high odds of winning.

The emergence of roulette is described by many myths. According to one of them, the famous mathematician Blaise Pascal is credited with the invention of the mechanism itself! However, most researchers believe that the first mentions of this game were made in the early XVIII century.

Already at the end of the XVIII century, the world received the modern form of roulette. This happened after several decades of changes and growing popularity in the best gambling houses.

The mechanics of playing roulette are simple: the dealer spins the wheel with inscriptions of red, black and green colors in one direction, and then launches the ball in the opposite direction.

The player must guess which cell the ball will hit.

European roulette is a type of roulette in casinos, on which there are 37 cells, one of which is colored green and is called the sector “zero” or 0. The cells with numbers from 1 to 36 are red or black and are arranged in a certain order. In the classic version of this game you can find ten different betting options, each of which has its own winning odds. Interestingly, the total sum of all numbers on the roulette wheel is 666.

American roulette, as you can immediately notice, differs in that it has a double zero, which increases the number of cells to 38. In addition, the numbers on the wheel are in a different order than the roulette used in Europe. Otherwise, American roulette is similar to other types of this game.

French roulette is believed to be the original game that served as the basis for all subsequent versions of these games. Although the rules are almost identical to the European rules, there are some additional rules that increase a player’s chances of winning.

For example, the “La Partage” rule states, “If a zero falls on roulette, half of the bet made on even odds is returned.”
